On the 19th December Robert Andrews is celebrating his 80th birthday

Bob is a valued, productive and reliable regular crew member, he always shows up early to start rigging the boat and is willing to tackle any role necessary on deck.

He is last to leave after a post-race debrief, over a pint of his favourite drop Guinness (he was very disappointed when he couldn’t get it on tap during COVID19).

Bob joined SoPYC in 2013 and crewed on Spectre, an S80 until 2018, and he currently crews for Bluegrass, a Spacesailer 24.

Until recently he was out racing 3 days a week. He rides his bike to and from SoPYC all year round, rain hail or shine. Some say “salt water” in the veins.

Bob met his wife Zeta in 1999, he has 4 children, 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

He has his favourite sailing shorts, which he wears every time he races. Over the years Zeta has made several repairs and patched up Bob’s shorts so he can keep wearing them.

He is tireless in his efforts both on and off the water, constantly spruiking the joys of sailing and regularly getting new people to come out to give it a try.

We all hope that we are able to continue enjoying this sport at 80 years young, like Bob.
