The ‘Little Skippers’ event is a structured power boat training event for 10-15 year olds. The course was developed by Tracy Leveridge-Smith, our former Power Section Junior Development Coach and highly respected professional trainer and director of Perth Recreational Boating Academy. Under Tracy’s guidance, the free course is run by our experienced Power Section volunteers,  Members of State Emergency Services and Forces with support funding from the SoPYC Grand Sponsor Scheme.
Originally this event was a fun ‘activity day’ for younger kids. It now has developed into a full morning of activities to develop skills and confidence for older children. Children who have previously completed the course may enroll again.

Register now …  Places are limited!  This is a Free event !

Participants will learn essential drills required in preparation if they wish to do their Recreational Skippers Ticket, once they have turned 14.  Safety is paramount with all water based learning. All participants will be accompanied on the water by an adult, but the kids will be in charge. Department  of Transport, Fremantle Sea Rescue and WA Water Police crews will be on hand to test participants with their ‘30 second Challenge,  and their will be a  flare demonstration. Tracy’s program is a fun packed, hands on learning experience which participants are rewarded with trophies and other goodies, but most importantly, confidence, safety basic boat handling skills and learning to be a  responsible skipper  on the water.

Food and refreshments will be available for parents and siblings. Our volunteers will cook up yummy BBQ burgers for  lunch after the event. Coffee,  ice cream van and games will keep everyone amused in the Beachside Marquee and shady lawn area. Come along to make it a family event.

What participants need:
Hat, sunscreen, sunnies, board shorts, long sleeved shirt or rashie. Water and PDFs will be available for participants.

Boats:
Participants are encouraged to supply a dinghy or inflatable rhib with an outboard motor (under 5hp.) for use on the morning.  Each participant will also require an adult with an RST to assist with the on water training. Please contact Matt in the OWG   for information for the event.
