Pens & Moorings Update

There are quite a few vessels moving around the club at the moment so I thought I might use this forum to remind you of what you need to do when (a) selling your current vessel and (b) purchasing a new one.

Selling your current Vessel

Once you have sold your vessel, you must notify and remove the vessel from the within 14 days as per the P&M policy 7.1

  • In the event of the sale of any vessel occupying a pen or mooring, the hirer of such berth shall forthwith give notice in writing of such sale to the Pens and Mooring Committee and shall cause such vessel to be removed from the berth within 14 days of such sale or such other time at the sole discretion of the Pens and Mooring Committee.

Unless you are a “Deed Pen” holder, you are unable to sublet your pen. And unless write to the Pens & Moorings committee and request that we hold your pen pending a new vessel that will fit into it, the pen will revert back to the club for reallocation. You will be credited any paid fees.

Purchasing a new Vessel

When you purchase a new vessel, you will need to complete the same paperwork as you did when you first came into the Club. It is all online now and it is far easier than previous. Fill in the Application Form and submit with your “Registration” and “Certificate of Insurance”. Also move straight in and do your “Marina Safety Compliance” which is also online and far easier to do now. This applies to Deed Pen holders as well as normal pen holders.

Contact one of our Compliance Officers to have the vessel checked and then move into your pen or the new one allocated to you.

It is wise to note that if you are purchasing a different size vessel than your previous one, there may not be a pen available. However, the team on the Pens & Mooring Committee will do everything in their power to help you while you wait for a pen. Note that there may be some additional fees.

  • All boat owners who purchase a larger vessel than the vessel they owned at the time they paid the pen entry fee will pay the difference between the original pen entry fee and the fee owing on the new, larger vessel. For example, if the first vessel was 10m LOA and the new vessel is 12m LOA, a pen entry fee will be charged for the 2m difference multiplied by the current annual pen fee applicable. No refunds will be issued on a reduction in boat size.

You will find it very helpful to go into your member portal on the Club’s web site and read the Pens & Moorings Policy and the Marina Manual to make sure you are not hit with a hidden surprise.

If you are unsure and wish for some guidance you can either contact Jess in the Facilities Office or you may contact myself.

New Facilities Roles

As you are no doubt aware, we have made a couple of big changes in the past few months. As you are all aware, we are due an increase in our riverbed lease in 2027 and this increase is going to be massive. In addition, we need to plan for preventative maintenance as well as planning for asset refurbishment and asset replacement. If we don’t start planning for this new, our costs and therefore our fees, may see a bigger increase that are are already going to get.

To help facilitate this we have engaged a professional Facilities Superintendent who will take on this massive roll. Our new Superintendent is Kerry Culshaw and while Kerry’s background is not marinas and boats, she comes very well accredited for the role we require. Most importantly Kerry has the Facilities Management skills especially when it comes to Facilities software which the Club needs to use to manage its more that 1200 assets that the Club owns.

We have placed both Kerry & Jess over in the room in the Centreboard Clubhouse that was once the Gym. The room has been refurbished by our Bosun Robbie and his team and has been occupied for only a couple of weeks. We will get around to putting signage up over the next few weeks so you will know where to go. It will also now house the hardstand booking system so this should also make it a little easier when needing to lift your vessel.

Please be a little patient as we develop these new roles and the associated procedures. Both Kerry & Jess are 100% committed to ensuring the Club is a better place moving forward. I know you will give them your full support.

Cheers
