As we enter the holiday season, boating activity on the Swan River increases dramatically.

Many dinghy classes hold their championships at this time of year with courses that cut across the usual transit paths of pleasure boats heading for Fremantle or Rottnest Island or returning to their marina.

The stern wave from power craft can have a huge impact on other river users, causing dinghies to capsize and as was the case recently, causing a start boat to rock so violently that several volunteer crew narrowly avoided injury.

In the interests of safety and fairness, would power boats traversing through sailing event areas, please reduce speed and consider deviating around the course.  Many skippers are surprised when they look over their shoulder and actually witness the devastation that their quarter wave can wreak on small craft, many of which are sailed by young children.

The boat ramp and Western hard stand is an obvious high demand area during the regatta, so we ask all members for their patience during peak periods.

Your cooperation will result in happy holidays for all.
