A beautiful day for the fleet of 23 boats to enjoy the afternoon on our beautiful Swan River. The fleet from Claremont’s Opening Day traversed the river with our fleet mid-way through the course, making a fantastic spectacle of boats travelling in formation, shining across the water.

With the local Dockers game telecast on the big screen TV, this encouraged many of the fleet back in early to enjoy the warmth of the bar. Once the rowdy crowd swelled with the return of the flag officers from Claremont Opening Day, results were underway. Captain PC Michael Cook welcomed Kim Giddens, our Vice Patron and local MLA, into the bar. Vice-Captain Jason had been busy selling the raffle tickets, announcing jug and wine winners, and then rewarding the raffle winners. With the popular Bent prop awarded to Detour Dave Markham, the wooden spoon awarded to Anthony Julian on Angel’s highest score, and competitors voucher draw won by PC Frank then Barbara Dalglish, it was time to announce the day’s competition results.

Bob Blanckensee would be very proud of his granddaughter, Victoria, for the contribution she is making to the Club. Rear Commodore Victoria is an all-round sailor and committed Club member. She sails a keelboat regularly on Wicked with Richard Evans and competed in the recent Flying Fifteen World Championship off Fremantle. She’s also part of the successful Women’s Squad and is the current 400 Champion navigator for Troy on Dalusional, just to name some of her water pursuits. Before presenting the pennants and trophy, Victoria spoke emotionally remembering her grandfather’s legacy and her joy when speaking with our senior members, who knew Bob.
