The Centreboard Prize Night for the 2022/23 Season unfolded as an unforgettable celebration of skill, perseverance, and community spirit. An evening marked by gratitude for our incredible volunteers and staff, the event spotlighted the triumphs of our sailors.

A Night of Celebrations

Dinner was served promptly, followed by the presentation for our younger talents. The seniors were then honoured with a sit-down meal and their own presentation.

Coach Awards

The evening also marked the recognition of our fantastic coaches. We’re deeply thankful to our Coach Award Sponsors at One Sails and Monkey Fist. Among the winners, Youri Karantonis shone as the ‘One to Watch’, while Victoria Chernoff bagged the One Sails Dedication Award. Michael Compton was celebrated as ‘Coach of the Year’, with Jamie Randall and Lachy Putt taking home the ‘Most Improved Coach’ and ‘Extra Mile Coach’ awards, respectively.

Centreboard Achievement Trophy

The evening culminated with the Centreboard Achievement Trophy, which was awarded to Murray Duthie from the Optimists. He stood out for his impressive performance across club, state, national, and world levels.

Flying 15 Special Presentation

A heartfelt note of thanks was extended to Headcoach Denis Jones by the Flying 15 class for his invaluable support leading up to and during the Flying 15 World Championship at Fremantle in March.

With such an impressive array of winners, we couldn’t be prouder of the achievements of the SoPYC sailors over the last season. It was an incredible night of celebrations and anticipation for the promising future of our club. Here’s to the ones who raise the sails and brave the waves – to another year of sailing and success!
