The ORWA awards were conducted on Saturday 17 June 2023. Ocean Racing along the Western Australian Coast is always interesting and race teams push hard to achieve overall personal best in their performance.
Sometimes its Short Haul series (Eight day races), sometimes Blue water series (Overnight), and this culminates in an overall tally towards winning one – Siska Series.
Some of these teams are semi professional and play in a very serious mode – some are also preparing for the Next Sydney to Hobart Race. All the time building confidence and competence in the race team and the race yacht. But so long as you are out there having fun – the offshore community is a great place to meet likeminded adventurers and competitors.
Sagacious IV Farr 40 IOR (Chris Hind) and the infamous King Canute Spacesailer 27 (Matt Rose), both with SoPYC team members, competed in some challenging conditions. Whilst Matt did not pick up any overall awards, he picked up a few individual race flags and got our vote for “Offshore Sailor of the Year “ award which was awarded at the SoPYC awards a few weeks ago.

Siska Series (Overall) (8th) and congratulations to David Davenport TP52 “Crush” for taking out the overall Siska Series.
