The weather gods were certainly in a jovial mood last Sunday, as they painted a perfect day of sunshine and tranquility – a siren’s call to our sailors. A daring band of 27 Flying Fifteeners answered that call, taking to the vibrant streets of Freo in an adrenaline-fueled quest for the much-coveted Perpetual Cactus trophy.

Hot on the heels of the exhilarating Band Night, spirits were just a tad weary but, true to the indomitable spirit of the Flying Fifteeners, they rallied with gusto. By the time the final pub visit rolled around, their energies were miraculously restored, their spirits soaring high!

Throughout the day, the teams showcased their wit and creativity in the face of intriguing challenges. Hunting down obscure landmarks, unraveling cryptic clues, and channeling their inner rockstars, they breathed life into iconic album covers. From The Ramones’ raw edge to Nirvana’s grunge essence, The Clash’s rebellious spirit to Pink Floyd’s psychedelic vibes, they did it all.

The competition was intense, the air pulsing with anticipation and friendly rivalry. However, in the end, it all boiled down to a show of creative flair. A round of applause for Ann and Andy, Brad and Nat for their innovative spin on Nirvana’s ‘Nevermind,’ clinching the revered Cactus! And let’s not forget Tim, whose daring take on the same album cover deserves its own standing ovation!

This day will live on in the annals of the Flying Fifteeners’ exploits, a testament to the camaraderie, creativity, and indefatigable spirit that defines us.
