There’s nothing like a shifty dying easterly to shuffle the results around and add plenty of fuel to the “who got the worst start” debate. And there was plenty to discuss post-race with a healthy fleet of 19 boats, our largest so far this season, for the penultimate day of Club Championship races.

In the first race, John and Matt (Ffast Lane 4) had an average first lap before picking up a very nice right-hand shift on the second beat to establish an unbeatable lead from Greg and his crew d’jour, John Parks (Spot the Difference). Sandy and Greg (Fly in the Ointment) got the new boat wound up to be third over the line and first on consistency. Karen and Russell (Second Breakffast) established an early lead in the second race to win narrowly from Andy and Anne (A2). Improving quickly, Terry and Leanne (Eagle Eye) won both heats in the silvers from new-comers Andrew and Paul (Running Free).

CORRECTION

Apologies are hereby given to those involved in last week’s Crews Race where, in the pattern of recent Miss Universe contests etc, the wrong winner was announced. It seems that Kevin didn’t get She Who Must Be Obeyed over the finish line in first place and I/we apologise for any damage caused to ego or reputation. Fleet captain Tim has launched a full investigation with the results to be confirmed and trophy awarded but the smart money is on Adam Semple (Yes, No, Maybe) at this stage.

Next week we add a bit of variety with a box start and fixed marks so bring your maps and glasses.
