The Power Yacht Committee voted to fill the Commodores Ball reserve day with the Dalglish Family Trophy, which was postponed in July, due to bad weather.  The reserve day event is a 10 am morning event, to allow competitors attending the Commodore’s celebrations, the afternoon free to glam and dress up tizzy for the night.

A smaller than usual fleet of 11 boats, enjoyed the clear but chilly morning course. Our start team were on the ball with check point teams timing 11 marks.

The Dalglish Family Trophy has morphed from The Frank Dal Autos Trophy, after Frank retired and sold his mechanics business to his son Paul.  The decision was made by Frank to not retire the trophy but rebadge the trophy, to recognise the entire Dalglish Family. This year will see the first time in SoPYC history, Troy Dalglish, a son of our Past Commodore, Frank Dalglish, is seeking election as Commodore.  Both Frank and Troy have served as Captain of our Power Section. Barbara Dalglish is a long time regular in the start box for both Power and Twilight Sailing events.  The Dalglish Family, truly worthy of recognition for Power Section and SoPYC.

The results were calculated super efficiently, ready to announce by 1.30 in a packed Yachties Bar while many members were choosing yummy new lunch selections from the new Quarterdeck menu.

The trophy is awarded on handicap and included a cash prize donated by Frank. A countback was required to break the 3-way tie on 21 handicap points between John and Lynne Cooper on Purrfect. Caroline James and Jason Claricoates on Tikkityboo and Commodore Michael and Maria Cook in first place, who took home the silverware and the loot.  Congratulations Cookie and Maria

The Least Points flag is hot property at this mid stage of the season. Jason Claricoats broke Troy’s winning streak of 6 wins in a row with a least points flag. Tikkityboo scored 6 points, M&Ms. Scored 7 and Troy on Dalusional was 3rd off the stick with 8 points lost on the course.

Next week is another of the CPYA State heat Rounds, hosted by RPYC with a raft up planned after the event in Matilda Bay.  Remember to nominate by Wednesday!

We wish our Power Sections members that are heading off fishing to the Abrolhos, smooth seas and a good catch.
