Whilst you may have thought that the Bosun’s Club had sunk below the waves, we have been active in a quiet way. Meetings are held monthly between the Commodore (who will be heading up the Bosun’s Club once his time as Commodore expires) and the 4 Section Leaders, and there will be some more work for you to get your teeth into shortly.

Work that has been completed in these winter months includes the following:

  1. Fixing some of the Jetty 3 decking that became loose underfoot;
  2. Posting of emergency signage near the gangways to each jetty;
  3. Erection of limited time parking signs on the road between Jetties 1 and 4.

The kits for 2 St Ayles skiffs have been ordered from SA and should arrive in the next few weeks.  The kits will include all set-out details and the frames on which to build the hulls.  We will then be looking for helpers to clear up our shed and build these boats, hopefully with direction from Steve Ward, the builder of the RFBYC skiffs.  Ken Baxter has been acknowledged with the title of Shedmaster for his great efforts in getting the shed up to speed with the workbench and kitchen – we just need to complete the plumbing.

For those of you looking to get away from the gardening there will be the opportunity to get involved in the following tasks over the coming months:

  1. Brick paving for a path across the grass in front of the Facilities Manager’s office;
  2. Replacing dodgy timber deck planks on Jetties 6 and 7;
  3. Clean-up around the Western Hardstand;
  4. Installing bird scarers on the jetties once the model to be used has been selected.

We are proposing to hold a Beer and BBQ session before Opening Day, so watch this space.
