Let’s talk about Audits or more precisely Australian Sailing Equipment Audits. This is an annual exercise to ensure all boat owners understand and comply with minimum safety standards set out in the Australian Sailing Special Regulations. Owners of Keelboats and Off The Beach Boats who intend to compete need to submit the appropriate form before their first race of the new season.

There is only one form for Off The Beach Boats but for Keelboats there are a variety to choose from depending on where the racing is located. All Keelboat racing on the Swan River is under Category 7, while events run on the ocean could range from Category 6 to 2.

SoPYC have 3 ocean events this coming season, so if you intend to compete in either of these events when it comes to selecting the appropriate Equipment Audit Form, choose the category with the lowest number and it will cover all events with higher number (up to Cat 7). That way you only need to submit the one form.

As a further explanation, please click here.

Paper Audit forms are still acceptable but if you prefer to submit online via Yacht Safe you may do so now. Most boats have a Yacht Safe account already but if you don’t and wish for one to be setup for you, please let us know Email:

Boats at random will be selected for an audit by Australian Sailing qualified Equipment Auditors during the summer. They are SoPYC Members who volunteer their time to help you with compliance and safety. So if you want some help with preparing your Audit Form or have questions related to safety onboard your boat, please contact the Sailing Administrator who will connect you with an Auditor.

Race 2 of the Jane Brook Wines Midweek Winter Series continues tomorrow. H28s – make sure you have the latest Midweek course sheet.

Division 3 has a pursuit race on tomorrow and as soon as the start times are available, they will be sent to skippers electronically.

DF95ers have their next Club Championship on this Friday at 1500.

This Sunday is the final OTB Winter Series day for Lasers, Optimists, 29ers, and Open Skiffs. Presentations will be held in the Ballroom at 1730.

Attention Midweek sailors: Just as a general bit of advice, following the start and when the RPYC boats are charging down towards Foam Buoy for the first time, do try to keep well clear of that area otherwise your pleasant afternoon sail could turn into a real demolition derby. We want to avoid ugly scenes like this, so after rounding Sampson Spit, pass Foam Buoy (55) to starboard and stay safe.

Alright, that’s it. Let’s roll!     Hey, let’s be careful out there.

Notice to Competitors

EQUIPMENT AUDIT FORMS

Skippers, please note that your Equipment Audit Forms have now expired as of June 30. To be eligible to compete in the new season starting from Opening Day on Oct 3, a new Equipment Form must be submitted online. Most, if not all Skippers have had their previous Audit form submitted online via YachtSafe already, so it should be relatively easy to resubmit a new form in time for your first race of the new season and the good news is that you can view your previous form in Past Audits on your YachtSafe dashboard.

YACHT TRACKERS

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know. Past races can be viewed using the button below.
