An interesting week ahead starting on Wednesday with the special S80 Legends Race starting mid-river at 1430. We’re expecting quite a few old faces from the past down at the Club for that.  Further details can be found further down in this bulletin. Following this the S80 fleet will be back again this Saturday afternoon as the first fleet off for the 3rd race of their Summer Series.

Twilight folk, please note that due to later sunset time, racing will now start at 1825 as per the Schedule. That will give you some extra handy minutes to get onboard.

The last e-race will be held online this Thursday at 1400. All thanks to COVID sailors worldwide have been regularly competing in online for many months now and SoPYC members were racing every Thursday afternoon for __ weeks up until now, where sadly we are going to take a raincheck for a while.

This Saturday the Red Witch fleet will be pursuit racing from the Start Box this Saturday at 1330 for race 1 of the Jeff Claflin Tri Series. Pursuit start times will be available by Thursday and sent directly to Skippers.

Immediately after Saturday Keelboat racing this week, SoPYC will be conducting some races for the foiling Moths and WASZP. Some fast and furious racing for sure!

Ron Tough Yachting Foundation has come onboard as the naming-rights sponsor of Goolugatup Sailing Carnival from 4th to 14th January 2021. Entries are open for all off the beach classes and if you want to be a part of it, we are also looking for volunteers. Further details below.

Please note that while the SoPYC safety boat Heathcote is receiving some necessary maintenance, a substitute safety boat will be providing safety coverage for Keelboats races but towing capacity may limited or not available. Skipper’s please consider utilising your Fremantle Sea Rescue membership benefits if a tow is required.

Racing Rules of Sailing

Presented for your benefit are a series of sessions on the racing rules of sailing by the Club’s Rules Chairperson, Christina Heydon (National Judge).

Sessions are relatively brief starting at 11:30am and designed to finish in time to allow you to grab a bite and ready your boats in good time prior to the Midweek afternoon race. You will be well equipped to put your knowledge into practice during that days race.

Each week a new scenario is presented for review prior to the class and a healthy discussion ensues on the day ably led by Christina.

Follow the progress of the class by visiting the Racing Rules section on the SoPYC website: https://sopyc.com.au/on-water/racing-rules-sailing/

Skippers, crew and others invited to come along. Bookings not required

TWILIGHT SERIES

Experience racing into the sunset and finishing under a brilliant summer moon that only the Twilight Series can offer. If you’re lucky you may even catch the ISS streak overhead. Twilights have been designed with short courses to keep boats relatively close to the Club and being jib and main only boats are not so dependant on skilled crew required for spinnaker work, keeping in line with the more relaxed style of racing Twilights are known for.

Yacht Trackers

The ability to replay club fleet races is now available. Try the free Yacht Bot tracking software yourself. It can be downloaded and installed on your smartphone or tablet via an App. If you interested and don’t mind taking your electronic device with you on the water, please let us know.
