South of Perth Yacht Club were represented by 16 Junior sailors from our Sailing Academy at West Sail and the WA Youth Championships this week.
SOPYC Coaches were on hand to provide training for the West Sail portion of the event, and stayed on to support the racing fleets for the Regatta. A BIG thanks to Head Coach Denis, Caitlin, Jenna, Michael, and Annabelle for continuing to grow our young sailors confidence and abilities. After 4 days of intensive training the Sailors took to the racecourse to put their theory to the test.
Day one started off light, with a delay until the afternoon breeze set in. Three races were able to be run on the Opti and open Skiff course before the cut off time, a good start to the regatta.
Day two the wind continued to build, with a live reading mid afternoon of 18-22 knots. It was great to see our sailors showing what they are made of finishing strong while many struggled in the stronger winds.
It seems our Girls On Water group are not ONLY having fun during their Friday Sessions, as the podiums were stacked with SOPYC female junior sailors!
Congratulations

to all our sailors!
