Twelve Vipers competed in perfect conditions on the weekend of 2 and 3rd December 2023 at South of Perth Yacht Club.  A total of 8 races were completed in winds ranging from 5 to 15 knots.  The wind was variable in both direction and strength making for big gains and losses on the course.  Despite the wind variations the racing was extremely tight with all 12 boats finishing within 2 minutes of each other in most races.

After racing was completed on Saturday a BBQ provided welcome sustenance for 65 people.  Champagne, wine and beer complimented the fish tacos , grilled kebabs, sumptuous salads and dessert platter.  Great to see some younger sailors entering the fleet making it a multi-generational sporting event.

Congratulations to Rod Beurteaux, Jon Stubbs and Simon Wilder sailing “You Get in the Bowl” who won in a close battle from Murray Howson, Craig Hansen and Jordan Mears on “Atheris”.  Full results below.

Next Viper sailing is on 14 January 2024 when the frantic Rumble in the Reach takes place.  $1,000 in prize money is again up for grabs to the sportsboat  who can best tame the dreaded drainpipe.

Following the Rumble is Geographe Bay Raceweek starting February 3rd 2024.  Last year saw 6 Vipers enjoying the pristine waters of Geographe Bay and this year it looks like we will have 10 Vipers participating.  Strong sponsorship means plenty of prizes and giveaways to all competing boats.  Organisers are expecting over 100 yachts in what is becoming Western Australia’s largest sailing regatta.
