The Volunteer Bosuns are at it again!

Rebuilding the centreboard tables.

All the hard work of building the racks for the Windsurfer Worlds has come to naught. We had to tear them down again and the stacks of timber are now under wraps while new uses are found for them.

Following on from a suggestion by head bosun David Locke, the restoration of the wooden benches and tables under the Centreboard sails sounded like a good idea. After all, we had all this pine left from the frames we dissembled after the Windsurfers Worlds. All we needed was some more sanding discs, some wood glue and 4 litres of deck oil.

We began at the end of January and by mid-February, all six tables and the accompanying bench seats had been braced, rubbed down and on occasion reglued as the timber was in pretty poor condition. Once that was done, a generous splash of deck oil was applied and then reapplied to ensure a good coating.  They now sit on the centreboard forecourt ready for another round with the sailors.

We have to be honest, the benches and tables have been given another two years of life at best but there’s more to come, as ideas are beginning to come in for the timber and you may see something else built by the Bosuns club.

Keep your eyes out for something new around the club.
