13 boats braved the rain and went over the start line on Saturday afternoon, for the SMS Group Trophy. Thank you, Carl Segretto who has been a Power section sponsor, for over a decade, firstly with R Marine Mandurah and now with SMS Services in Canningvale. Friend, Steve Clarke stepped in for Carl, who was unavailable this year to present his trophy and the traditional bottles of French Champagne to the winners. Winners on Handicap for the Trophy with 20 points was Lone Star Garry Morrison and Amanda Watson, 2nd on handicap on countback and winner of the Least Points lost burgee again was Dalusional Troy and Victoria on also on countback for third and fourth places were Purrfect and Tikkityboo. Troy lost 6 points for least points flag with Jason onboard Tikkityboo, licking at his heels with just 7 points lost. Congratulations to the winners. We are at the pointy end of the season now. The fleet of keen Time Trailers, fronted up early on Sunday morning for the Kylie Cup and CPYA State Heat 7 at Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club. In the hunt for low scores, were our 3 contenders for the State Title, Thanet, Dalusional and Tikkityboo. Alas, the silverware was firmly bolted down at Freshie with Tim Cummins with Ken Stevenson onboard Havana, once again in top form, taking the glory of the Kylie Cup, the stunning prize, an engraved George Jensen silver bowl and CPYA Heat winners with a loss of 6 points. Freshie teams also were 2nd and third placed. Our 3 teams all scored an even 10 points lost to put them out of contention for the flags.
The video and interviews abandon on Saturday due to the unfavorable weather are scheduled for this week, during the Patron’s Trophy. Thank you and please again wear red black and white section colours and be up in Yachties Bar by 5.15 for the “early jug” draw.
