It was pleasing to have good fleet numbers for the Club consistency event, the Graeme Hood Memorial Trophy. 25 teams meant results, flags and bell rings for 2 fleets and a noisy busy bar. Congratulations to Time Out, PC Phil Warwick and Pam finding form to pick up first place in the Starboard fleet with their score of 7, alas their 11 handicap meant they were bumped out for the Graeme Hood Trophy win by Sovereign, Rodney Greville-Collins and Richard Melsom with a score of 13. As luck would have it, Richards father and retired champion timetrialler, Peter Melsom and wife Kathy, happened to call in for a drink and catch up so were happy to receive the trophy from Graeme’s grandson, Mat Lingard on behalf of Sovereign skipper. It is lovely to welcome Julie and the Hood family who gather each year for the trophy presentation and dinner to remember Graeme. It was also great to see Margaret Cooper back with PC Frank and Barb Dalglish in the start box team. Least Points of 6 went to Amazon. Full results can be found on the Sportspage website.

Results for the Seafarers Measure (where Navigators get to be Skippers) saw a number of the same faces. A clash of calendar with the Commodores Ball morning kept some of the usual navigators away meaning a fleet of just 7 boats. All the ‘dedicated’ skippers in the Navi skips were presented with bottles of wine for their participation in this morning event. Winner – Team Dalusional, skippered by Victoria Blanckensee and navigated by experienced navigator, RC Troy Dalglish won with a score of 10 by just one point from experienced skipper Lynne Cooper and navigator John Cooper onboard Purrfect with 11 points. Girls, get ready for another chance behind the wheel with Lady Skippers event in 3 weeks.
