Our GM Mike had a good idea.

He’d seen these handy bar tables that the club hired in for the Windsurfers World and wondered whether we could make some from the left over timber from the racks. Bob Harrap was kind enough to draft up a plan and help us put the first one together, then promptly went on holiday for four or five weeks, with a list of other tasks to help fill in the gaps.

But there is always someone who can step up to lead the build and Dave Roberts took on the challenge with an engaging smile and a lilt in his manner. He asked for some new sanding belts, some pine filler and another 4 litres of deck oil and away we went. By the time you read this, the first couple of tables should be sitting under cover at the front of the club’s ballroom with the promise of another four to come.

That’s not all of course.

Bob volunteered the crew to make up some more boards for jetties 4 and 5 and we managed to get the first set cut and painted while waiting for the paint to dry on the first bar table and we are currently waiting for the next delivery of marine ply so that we can get some more planks cut for painting.

There is more to come but we need to have the shed cleared back so that we can get to work on the next chore… The cannon and the gun carriage.
