The last month has been nothing but making these magnificent frames for the Windsurfer Worlds coming up at the end of the month. Hundreds of metres of pine that has been sliced up for the needs of these sailboard holders and large tubs of tek screws have been put into the timber.

And we have finished them.

The frames were distributed around the lawns last Sunday and once the dust settled they looked quite fine. However, these frames are only part of the set-up as we have to put in sail and boom racks and these will fit between the frames as they spread across the lawns while they cater to the hordes of sailors.

From a friend who does Facebook, I’ve learned that the local Windsurfing gurus have already been down and tested the racks and given us their seal of approval. There is some talk that we might be using some of the remaining timber to build seating. Keep your eyes on the lawns.

Of course, this is only part of the build-up to the event with the regular bosuns taking care of the centreboard clubhouse, covering it with new paint and the shade sails that will protect the sailors from the booming West Australian sun.

They are setting up external showers to cater to the need to have a quick wash after a race and I believe they will be rolling in porta loo’s to cater for the large numbers as well.

What shall we do with the frames once we have finished with the Worlds?

We have a National 9er Championships that begins shortly after the Windsurfer Worlds and there will be the need to remove the frames from the beachfront to allow the 9er sailors access to the grass for set up. If you have a good idea for the remainder timber, please pass it on to the club.

A quiet word of thanks to the club bosuns for putting up the new signs in the member’s bar/wardroom foyer. They look quite good up there.

The club is looking for rowers for the two skiffs besides the teams from the fleets and if you contact Bob Harrap on 0407 991 901 or John Midolo on 0419 964 971, they will help you get going as a rower.

Rick Steuart for the Bosuns club.

Merry Christmas to all.
