Last Friday night, in and amongst some Irish shenanigans, saw the second leg in the fight for the Norm Cocks Memorial Trophy take place. This event sees a Power time-trialing skipper and a keelboat skipper combine and swap roles to see who can tame the other-sides role the best.
Wednesdays twilight race for the Eun-na-Mara Trophy, the power skippers battled it out. Experience showed the way with Guy Skinner taking over “Wicked” for the evening and blitzing the race despite a hefty handicap, whilst 30yrs removed from sailing himself, Jeremy Greaves nabbed second on “Olive Marie”.
Last night, the Yimbala Trophy was up for grabs. As the sun dimmed the fleet headed out, some interesting maneuverers hampered some competitors, whilst others looked right at home under the watch of their experienced navigators. Glenn Stanley, experienced H28 sailor, but without a stint on a poweryacht in 40+years put in an impressive showing only losing 14pts, overall 4th. But it was David Cowden under the tutorlidge of SoPYC 2022 TT champion, the current Commodore scoring an impressive low of 10pts over the 7 checkpoints.
And the overall winner of the Norm Cocks Memorial Trophy, in a tight contest, with 6pts based on event finishes…
David Cowden & Comm. Troy Dalglish
