KING CANUTE RECKONS IT’S TIKKITYBOO!

Last week’s Eun-na-Mara and Yimbala trophy events attracted eighteen boats but more importantly, brought together many more, particularly last Friday evening, to enjoy the announcement of results and presentation of trophies after a hiatus lasting many years.

Remarkably, the winners of the overall Norm Cocks Memorial Trophy were two skippers who had never “crossed over” before – power skipper Jason Claricoates had never sailed on a yacht before and the sailing skipper Matt Rose had never participated in a time trial until last Friday. Quite remarkable really, and a testament to their coaching skills as they brought each other up to the standard where victory could be achieved.

Credit must also be given to the handicapper, who despite the enormous difference in the size and characteristics of the yachts, managed to get the first six home with barely two minutes separating first and sixth. A superb effort indeed.

The winners, King Canute (sailed by novice power boater Jason Claricoates) and Tikkityboo (driven by yachtie Matt Rose) each won their respective event and walked away with the Norm Cocks Memorial Trophy with a huge margin.

The success of these two events was due to some hard work by a number of contributors, but none more so that Maria Cook, who organized the food for Friday evening, and the two captains, Victoria Blanckensee and David Markham.

It’s a given that these events will be back on the calendar next season!
