“You know, we need a bigger shed.”

The Bosuns Club shed is bulging and the extra gear stored in there will just have to go somewhere else.

Before the team was brought in, the two principals sat down to build the base of the frame and ensure that we had the right gear about us. Drop saws, Bench drills, electric planes and all the toys that we need in the workshop.  Many, many clamps were found to make the job easier. Once the volunteers had a chance to see what was going on, it was simply a case of allotting tasks and commencing the preparation for the assembly of the skiff.

Nothing happens in a hurry and the need to take the prepared planks from the sheets of marine ply took a few days. During this period, the frames were set in place and bolted down. They have to do for at least two boats and might be able to do another one or two if we are lucky.

Discussions on how and where the pieces fit were very much in play and recourse to a think pad parked on a spare table were part of the story. However, attention to detail works and the innate skills in the hands of the volunteers will come forward over the next few weeks.

A number of visitors have cycled through the shed and we welcome them as curiosity only leads to interest in the event. You’re welcome to see what is going on. This assembly of photos will give you an idea of where the skiff is at and there will be a fortnightly report in Coffee Pointers.
