This year SoPYC will be conducting a full weekend of offshore racing starting with the popular Around the Sound Race on Saturday followed by Windward/Leeward races on the Sunday.
The Around the Sound race is an inshore sheltered race held in Cockburn Sound in the vicinity of Garden and Carnac Islands.  The race is designed to suit entry level cruiser racers under safety Category 4 (Category 3 for Double Handed) where river based club racers have the opportunity to experience some ocean racing on a course designed to test their sailing proficiency on all wind angles.
This race often attracts additional entrants who are not necessarily competing for an entire series of races, but wish to get their boats out to sea occasionally.  The boost in casual entrant numbers adds to the ambience of the day race.
In 2017-18 season, the  “Around the Sound”, sponsored by OH&S Consulting, will be conducted on Saturday 10th February 2018 starting off Fremantle commencing with the Double Handed Division at 0925 hrs.
Trophies will be presented for both IRC and YAH.  Results for this race will count towards the Offshore Series, Northern Regatta and the SOPYC Offshore Cup.
