FIVE DAYS OF FRENETIC FOILING

McDougall McConaghy Australian Moth Championships in Perth

A fleet of 53 Moths enjoyed a full range of weather conditions including thunderstorms and lightning at the McDougall McConaghy 2016 International Moth Australian Championship in Perth, from January 3 – 8 sailed on the Swan River.

Host club, South of Perth Yacht Club succeeded in organising 15 races over 5 days. The runaway winner Josh Mcknight from NSW won 12 of 15 races to claim his first Australian title from Rob Gough from Tasmania who sailed a consistent series for second overall. An international competitor Ed Chapman from GBR finished third.

First WA sailor was Steve Thomas from RPYC who sailed a very solid series to finish fourth overall and third Australian. Also finishing in the top 10 was Fang Warren from EFYC finishing a credible 8th overall.

The foiling moths at times reaching speeds of 25+ knots entertained a number of spectators on and off the water. The host club South of Perth Yacht Club were applauded for their regatta management and hospitality ashore.
