Exciting News - Sail GP Tech Tour Prizes

11 winning sailors from the Goolugatup Sailing Carnival will get the opportunity to join an exclusive behind the scenes tech tour during the Oracle Perth Sail Grand Prix presented by KPMG in January.

A SailGP Tech Tour is a behind-the-scenes experience at a SailGP event that allows visitors to witness the technology, engineering, and logistics required to operate the high-speed F50 catamarans. Comparable to a pit lane walk at the F1.
Duration: 1hr
Time: TBD
Key aspects of a SailGP Tech Tour typically include:
  • Behind-the-Scenes Access: Visitors get to see the “tech site” or event base, observing the complex operations and effort it takes to manage the global racing circuit.
  • Close-up look at the F50s: Guests can see the identical hydrofoiling F50 catamarans up close. These boats are technological marvels that can reach speeds of over 100 km/h and their construction details (e.g., high-modulus titanium & carbon fiber foils, modular wings) are often highlighted.
  • Educational Opportunities: The tours are designed to inspire visitors, including business leaders, local sailing clubs, and youth groups, to take similar climate action and learn about the technology and innovation in the marine industry.
  • Data and Technology Insights: SailGP uses advanced technology, including 125 sensors on each boat and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, to stream real-time data to teams, umpires, and fans. The tours may offer insight into how this data is used for analysis and performance improvement.
