S80 Sailor Development Program (SDP)
After completing the training courses (or having equivalent sailing experience) the S80 class provides a free Sailor Development Program, which is a series of training programs to assist people, to further develop their sailing skills to be “race-ready” as crew, and also if desired to go on to skipper a sailing boat.

Launch, gybe, and recover spinnakers, trimming sheet and brace, as well as helming under spinnaker.

- Introductory evening 2-hour seminar, Tue Oct 4 @ 1830
- 4 weekly on-water sessions of 4 hours each on Sun Oct 9; 16, 23 & 30th @ 0800
Sail and boat trim, racing rules, race tactics, reading wind; teamwork, and personal preparation.
Starting & racing practice in a mini-regatta format

- 2 evening seminars, 2-3 hours: Tuesday, 22nd October 2024 and Tuesday, 29th October 2024 at 1830
- 5 on-water sessions in boat handling 4 hours each. Sunday, 27th October, and Sunday, November 3, 10, 17, 24
Participants must be a member of South of Perth Yacht Club. Crew membership can be arranged with the club which currently offers an Introductory Crew Membership and Full Crew Membership.
The program is coordinated by the S80 WA Association, which owns the S80 Grand Piano as a training boat. The coaches are volunteers from the S80 fleet, and other keelboat fleets. There are no formal course fees, however, donations to the S80 Grand Piano Maintenance Fund are most welcome.
