St Ayles Skiffs at HMAS Perth Memorial Regatta

On Sunday 16th February, Nedlands Yacht Club hosted the 65th annual HMAS Perth Memorial Regatta to commemorate the loss of the HMAS Perth during the ferocious Battle of Sunda Strait on 1 March 1942. More than 130 boats from 13 clubs participated in the event.

St Ayles Skiffs from South of Perth Yacht Club, Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club and the East Fremantle Skiff Association were invited to attend the ceremony and row in company as part of the festivities. Regular rowers, Anne, Leanne, Simon, Bruce and Ian represented SoPYC. Events such as these showcase the St Ayles Skiffs to the wider community and provide an opportunity to socialise with crews from other clubs.

SoPYC own two St Ayles skiffs, built by the Bosun’s Club. These skiffs are now club property and available for all members to use. A group rows on Sunday mornings, but we have room for many more. Get involved and experience one of the fastest-growing water activities in the world!
