Sailability

Sailability at SoPYC

Sailability is a volunteer-led initiative offering sailing opportunities to people with a disability, regardless of their ability, mobility, or circumstances.

Operating out of the South of Perth Yacht Club the 2025/26 Sailability season runs every Wednesday morning between 10am and 12pm from 15th October 2025 to 27 May 2026, breaking for the Christmas holidays after sailing on 17th December and returning on 7 January.

The program uses a variety of vessels—from stable two-person dinghies to 20-foot and larger yachts. All sailing takes place in safe, protected waters and is fully supported by an experience team Sand a safety boat.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

New Volunteer Application Form

We urgently need volunteers to keep this fantastic program afloat.

Roles include dinghy/yacht skippers & crew, rigging helpers, crane operators, ‘Meet & Greet’ people, power boat skippers, observers and many more water and shore-based helpers. On-the-job training will be provided.

Can you spare a few hours weekly or on an ad hoc basis for this very worthwhile initiative of the Rotary Club of Melville and South of Perth Yacht Club?

Sailing and boating skills are required for some On-Water roles. On-Shore roles can be fulfilled by anyone with a smile! Be part of a team which promotes the joy of sailing as a recreation to people with disabilities.

Benefits for our Sailability Participants and Volunteers

Act Belong Commit

Being active, having a sense of belonging and having a purpose in life all contribute to a good mental health and wellbeing and builds stronger communities.

Untitled ACCORDION II

Our Sailing sessions commence at 10am every Wednesday per the calendar below with Volunteers arriving from 9am.

Sailing sessions may be cancelled due to strong winds, high temperatures or wet weather for safety reasons, we will contact all participants and volunteers prior to the session should they be cancelled.

Sailability@SoPYC operates as a Section of the South of Perth Yacht Club but receives little financial support from club members. The program relies heavily on private donations, sponsorships, government grants, modest participation fees, and the dedication of its volunteers.

Whilst Sailability@SoPYC is entirely volunteer-run, operating costs remain significant. Ongoing funding is essential to maintain safety standards, upgrade resources, and expand participant access.

If you or your organisation would like to support our program, please reach out via [email protected].
