COMPETITOR INFORMATION

South of Perth Yacht Club welcomes all skippers and crew to celebrate the opening of another summer of sailing. Time to brush of the winter chills and get ready for an action packed summer season.

This seasons event incorporates the S80 Metro Series and the ‘Patrons Trophy’ Pursuit. To get a start time, please ensure you have nominated for the 2024-2025 seasons.

Visiting boats are invited to join in with the ‘chase’. Please nominate your boat via the ‘Invited Fleets’ option, and we will provide a ‘Go’  number to join in racing!

Sail Past Format

All sail past vessels to congregate in assembly areas as show on plan.
Skippers are requested to follow directions from the Marshall's verbally, flag or via radio on Channel 69.

79th Summer Open Day Programme Summary 

1130    –   All sailors and guests assemble in the Ballroom for the Official Ceremony

1200   –   VIP’s to the Yachtsman Bar

1220   –   All bars close, reopening at 1:00pm

1230   –   Ceremony commences
1250   –   Declaration of the start for the 79th Sailing Season

1250   –   Official Guests to board VIP vessels on Jetty 1 to view the Sail Past

1310   –   Sail Past commences – Power Boats, Keel Boats and Centreboards 
1355   –   VIP Vessels depart for river cruise to view the days racing

1400   –   Warning signal for Keelboats (Box start)

1425   –   Warning signal for Off The Beach (Mid River start)

1600   –   Afternoon tea in the Wardroom for VIP’s 

1730   –   Announcement of days racing results in Yachties Bar

OFFICIAL SALUTE

Official salute will be taken from the end of the fuel wharf from the base of the Start Box.

The official party shall comprise the Commodore, Guest Speaker, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore Regatta and Rear Commodore Centreboards, Sailing Captain, Centreboard Captain, Power Captain and Junior Captain.  Keelboat salute facing north and centreboard (OTB) salute facing west.

 Power boats are to proceed in single file in a northerly direction, from the assembly area of Canning Bridge, passing close to the Start Box to take the salute, before proceeding to the raft-up area as illustrated in the attached diagram, following the route set by the lead power vessel.

Yachts are to proceed in single file in a northerly direction, from the assembly area of Martin/Weaver buoys, passing close to the Start Box to take the salute, before proceeding to the starting area, following the route set by the lead yacht.

Centreboards are to proceed in single file in a northerly direction, from the launching beach, passing close to the Start Box to make their salute to Commodore, before proceeding to the starting area, following the route set out in the attached diagram, by the lead yacht.  OTB Marshall shall be located at a buoy adjacent to the saluting position beneath the start box.

Saluting Protocol
Skippers with a formal peaked cap should return the salute.  Skippers without formal cap shall return the salute by the placement of the open right hand across the heart.
