S80 Club News - December 2024

Sailing season is now well underway and results are in at the half way mark.

S80 Opportunities
For those wanting the challenge of close one-design keelboat racing we have some different and terrific S80 boat opportunities available for any keen sailors at SoPYC, including Glasgow Kiss SP164 (second in this year’s S80 State Titles and Winner of Ron Tough match racing event) has a 1/3rd share available and we are actively looking at other new boat opportunities. Terrific boat in great condition on the western hardstand. If you are interested in owning an S80 or just sailing in the fleet get in contact.

S80 Pre-Xmas Spring Series Winner
The S80 Association pre-xmas Spring Series was completed on Sat Dec 21 at RPYC in a breezy, hot afternoon sail. There has been some very close competitive racing in the fleet with six different skippers taking out a fastest win in different races during the series.

The series result came down to the last race with not much separating the leading 4 boats. Great to see Fair Game and Zinfandel getting out and giving it a crack. Seven races were run with the best 6 of 7 counting.

Don’t Panic!! took out the series OTL win (13pts) – well done Mat and crew. Rum Runner beat Fusion into third on a countback (both 16pts).
Fusion took out the series Consistency win (19 pts) from Rum Runner (21pts) and Sweet Babs (26pts).

S80 Club Championships Series
Three S80 Club Championship heats have been run so far, with some very close racing to date. Winning boats and taking out the coveted bottle of S80 wine are:
  • Heat 1: Fair Game (Sue),
  • Heat 2: Shadowfax (Mark & Jim), and
  • Heat 3: Don’t Panic!! (Mat).
Don’t Panic leads the series so far by 1 point from Shadowfax. Sue Game (Fair Game) and owner of Perth’s 5 Star Holiday Hotel for Cats “Chicas Cattery” is sponsoring the event wine this year.

Wishing you all a very enjoyable and safe Xmas and New Years – both on and off the water.
