Flying 15s - Coffee Pointers (21 January 2025)

It seems that the Flying Fifteens weren’t the only class to enjoy success at a National level over the Christmas / New Year period with an inspiring series of reports presented after sailing on Sunday. Congratulations to all those sailors who trained, travelled and competed. Congratulations also to all those parents and coaches who supported those sailors to get to these events.

It’s often been observed that the Sunday sailing program at South of Perth is a great platform to hone the skills of those who would aspire to compete at the higher levels and the proof was certainly in the telling.

2025 Australian Championship results for South of Perth boats:
1st – Nick Jerwood and Brad Sheridan
2nd – Mike Dunbar and Paul Dunbar
5th – John Hassen and Kevin Griffiths

Pictured this week are those who tasted success at the Nationals ( minus Nick Jerwood) with their fair share of trophies.
For the Flying Fifteens, results of first, second and fifth is not to be sneezed at and makes our fleet very attractive for those looking for the top levels of competition and maybe just a bit intimidating for the rest of us !

Further testament to the Nationals results, Nick sailed with a young lady who is not his normal crew and, again, lead the fleet for both Club heats. The fact that the lady featured at the recent Paris Olympics may have had something to do with it ! Mike and Paul finished closely behind in the both races.
Consistency results were the usual mixed bag with Carl and Kristine featuring at the top of the list.

Complete results can be found here.

There is no sailing scheduled for next week so we can all celebrate Australia Day but the following week ( February 2nd) is another couple of Club Championship heats.
