On Monday, 2nd September 2019, SoPYC was notified by Mr Justin Taylor that he is withdrawing his nomination as a candidate for the 2019-2020 SoPYC Management Committee.

YOU CAN ALSO GET YOUR KIDS INVOLVED AT THE SHOW WITH THE FREE TACKERS SAILING PROGRAM!
Kids will love getting out on and sailing a boat all on their own in Elizabeth Quay.
Thanks to Australian Sailing, South of Perth Yacht Club, Royal Perth Yacht Club, and Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, the popular “Tackers Sailing Program” will run all weekend at the Club Marine Perth International Boat Show. “Tackers Sailing” is an introductory, fun, games-based sailing program designed for kids aged 7 to 12, delivered at recognised Tackers Clubs.
Kids don’t need to have any sailing experience and they don’t have to be a member of a club to participate.
All the equipment, including the boats, is provided. All they need to do is register on the day, grab a life-jacket, take some instruction and then they’re off! It’s completely safe, with a special course allocated for the Tackers boats and managed by a team of qualified instructors. Most importantly, kids will feel the thrill of sailing all by themselves on the beautiful Swan River!
For more information on the Tackers Sailing Program, visit www.discoversailing.org.au times and map with the location of the Sailing Activity is available on the boat show website.
The Tackers sailing program will be run all weekend at the boat show.

Head Coach Report 3 September 2019
Congratulations to Aaron Teo for taking out the overall victory at Huck Scott (FSC) last weekend in the Optimist Open fleet. Aaron has been training hard and looked very natural when we did some cross-training in the OutThere Sailing program a couple of weeks ago. Well done Aaron.
Last Sunday when the keelboats cancelled racing, our juniors went out to take on the storm with some “Experience” training. Experience training is something I’ve done with sailors for a long time. Essentially sailors go out in conditions beyond what they race in for a short time with support and safe manoeuvres. If they feel comfortable they can push themselves, but the main objective is to gain confidence and come in quickly and safely.
The sailors did really well and experienced gusts over 30 knots. All smiles and back in safely.
The Pelicans were the first out in the morning.
ABOVE: Here’s Murray Duthie ripping in over 20 knots. Fastest Opti I’ve ever seen.
ABOVE: Aiden and Harley taking it on just after the front.
Great to see everyone’s enthusiasm and can’t wait to see them mastering 25-knot race-able conditions.
See you at the Applecross Cup.

If your off-season home improvement/renovation project is not down to the last coat of paint, it might be time to call in the professionals as the final races in the Schweppes Applecross Cup are on this Saturday and Sunday and you won’t have time to grout too many tiles before the warning signal at 0930. Ten ( that’s 10) races …

CLUB'S BLACK SWANS
Please don’t try to feed them or their cygnets as they are vegetarians and have plenty of food available in the neighbouring shallow waters around the club.
It’s a good idea to keep an eye on your young children and ensure that they are warned not to go near either the swans or their young, as it could cause them to become aggressive. Observe them from a distance and enjoy the sight of the truly unique specimens of the black swan of Western Australia.
