There were 39 eager nominations to get back into time trialling after a couple of weeks off. The weather wasn’t the best...just a bit wet, none the less the checkpoint teams were in place and the heavy rain subsided a little for the 1415 start gun. The course was a familiar route...from the start line, out the channel, downriver to …

There is new flagging on the Club's Boat Ramp, see photo below. BUT It is open for use by key holders as usual.

Our Bosuns gave the students of Yule Brook a tour of the SoPYC Marina facilities earlier on this month. "What an amazing day. I am surprised I only had six students interested. Robbie Wilson, the SoPYC bosun was very passionate about his job. Almost did not finish year 10. He hated school until he found his passion. Now is responsible …

Head Coach Report
Hi Everyone. A reminder that winter training is paused for now until 4th August while we await warmer weather, longer days and more wind.
It’s not, however, a break for those South of Perth sailors in the West Australia State Squad (WASS). This first camp for 2019 will be held this weekend at South of Perth Yacht Club.
The WASS initiative was set up to help sailors coming up through the junior classes. It’s an initiative supported by Australian Sailing, Western Australian Institute of Sport (WAIS) and other yacht clubs in Perth.
Unlike previous elite only programs, the WASS program recognises and supports club programs. There is a goal to obviously follow the performance pathway but in this case, the journey of this underpinning program will help participation along with performance.
I’ve been involved with this system for a while and see first-hand how well it is working with clubs. Sessions are never organised to clash with club events, in fact, all club events are promoted.
The program is run by South of Perth’s Matt Jerwood, with South of Perth coaches, Denis Jones and Ben Walkemeyer as class squad lead coaches.
The criteria for selection next year is as follows:
- ASS Youth Squad Criteria
- U18;
- Top 40 placing and top 50% at Nationals or Youth Nationals in a pathway class
- Discretionary inclusion based on assessment against
athlete selection matrix.
Enjoy your break and keep warm.

All submitted Equipment Audit Forms for the 2018-2019 season will expire on June 30th 2019 but before you all run off and print a new form, for this coming season you will have the option of completing forms Cat 1 to 7 online.
All SoPYC Keelboat skippers will have an account created in Yacht Safe in coming weeks which will allow them to complete, submit electronically and contact an Auditor. Skippers, Event Organisers and Auditors will all have online access to submitted forms.
Skippers can continue to provide a paper copy of the form and On Water Group will enter the data for you, however as the system is very easy to use, skippers are encouraged to try it out for themselves.
In the meantime, you do not need to action anything just yet. Further advice will be coming in the next few weeks.

SoPYC has utilised an online volunteer roster for the past 2 years and now intend to expand its scope to include the Centreboard Galley, Support Duty (yachting events) and Checkpoint Duty (Time Trials) rosters. The main benefit to Club Members is that the latest information is always accessible and interactive. This will be implemented over the next few months in stages allowing plenty of time for further information to be provided to Members. The roster can be accessed via the Volunteer webpage. If Members wish, they can create a profile now or one will be created for you in due course.

An App for all Members is available to download for free on your smartphone or tablet.
