POWER YACHT CLOSING DAY – the “other” Grand Final. Even cloudy skies, cold winds and showers could not quell the enthusiasm of our brave time trial fraternity and fourteen of the fifteen nominated yachts completed the course. If there was a bravery award, it would have been decided as clearly as the preliminary footie final between West Coast and Melbourne …

Flying Fifteen Update
The predicted storms and 20+ knots didn’t eventuate for Sunday so, after a short delay under the AP to allow the breeze to settle and our heads to clear, racing in the pre-season regatta got underway with a light westerly that built to something a bit more solid in the afternoon.
We are grateful to the AFL for organising a lesser sporting event for Saturday to serve as a curtain raiser to the main event and even more grateful to PC Les and his start team for 8 quick fire races and to Tim, Doug, Tony and Gordon for doing the mark laying duties.
Fair to say, we were all a bit rusty after winter and Nic and Janet showed they were the least corroded (?) to win from Philippa and Dean ( RFBYC ) and Greg and, his new crew, Hector in third. Full results on the SOPYC website.
There may be a few sore bodies at the beginning of this week but they’ll be all heeled up ( or heavily medicated ) in time for opening day next Sunday.

Member and Non-Member
Food & Beverage Pricing
At the AGM on 5th September, Members were asked to provide an indication of their views about the introduction of a Members and Non Members food and beverage pricing scheme. The feedback was overwhelmingly in favour of the proposal to introduce Member and Non Member pricing.
We are writing to notify members that the proposed two-tier or Member and Non Member pricing was adopted by the Management Committee and is effective from Monday 1st October, 2018.
The pricing structure will work in the following way;
- Beverage and dining prices will rise by 10% from Monday 1st October, 2018. Function pricing will be priced as per the current packages on offer.
- Members will automatically have a 10% discount applied to their purchases when they use their FOB key (member key) at the point of sale. (Grand Sponsors will therefore have a 20% discount).
- Members without their FOB keys must present their Membership Card at the time of the transaction to receive the 10% discount.
- The discount will not be applicable without either the FOB key or your Membership Card (which should be carried by Members at all times)
- Any person unable to demonstrate they are bona fide members of the Club will be obliged to pay the new Non Member prices for any purchases they make at the Club.
