The information gathered will be used to plan for Club activities/facilities/services and to plan for your membership expectations now and in the future. We would be grateful for your participation in this process so that we can take steps to provide, wherever possible, what it is that members want of the Club.
What will happen to my information and the survey results?
All electronic responses will be lodged directly to Perth Market Research. Responses lodged in hard copy at the Club (post or via box) will be passed to Perth Market Research who are conducting the analysis of the results. The information you provide will remain completely anonymous and confidential. Information provided will only be used for the purpose of this survey and will not be provided to any third party. All contact details will be destroyed following the prize draw.

The survey should take between 6 to 7 minutes to complete.
Club members who complete the survey will be eligible to take part in a prize draw for one of five (one each for sailing, centreboard, power, ocean racing, cruising) $100 dinner vouchers. At the end of the electronic survey, you will be prompted to go to a separate page where you can provide your name and any contact details. On the paper version of the survey, you can add your details to the last page which needs to be detached and placed in the survey box located in the Admin Office. A proposed change to Half Yearly
General Meetings
Each year the Club holds two general meetings of members – the Annual General Meeting held each September, and the Half Yearly General Meeting which is held in April each year to set various subscriptions and fees. There is often a difficulty getting a quorum for these general meetings.
As part of the current project of updating the Club’s governance documents to comply with new laws governing associations like the Club, management committee is considering a change so that the Half Yearly General Meeting would only be held if there were a proposal to increase subscriptions and fees by more than CPI (that is, CPI + 2%), or if there was other business that couldn’t wait until September. As there may be strong opinions about making such a change, the Club would be interested in hearing members’ thoughts about this, before we finalise a draft to put to members formally.
If any member would like a copy of the current draft rules (which are being drafted to replace the current constitution) and current draft bylaws (which are being drafted to replace the current rules), please let the Club know and a copy will be sent. The Club welcomes any comments on the drafts.

Information Night - another great success!
Navigation - It's just Maths
An enthusiastic crowd turned up at South of Perth Yacht Club on Monday evening to listen to the prominent sailmaker and skipper Paul Eldrid’s advice on tactical ocean racing navigation. He assured the audience that successful navigation is dependent on quality data to begin with – good scientific information about a boat’s theoretical performance in various conditions (VPP’s), good information about optimum sail combinations across a wide range of wind strengths and finally, good information about weather conditions. These factors can be logged into a computer program which then provides the user with the ideal strategy for each particular race. It’s just maths, he said.
Sounds simple, doesn’t it? Paul then went on to give examples where a good navigator will question the output of “the box” and review his boat’s strategy in the light of real conditions.
For the best part of an hour, Paul held the audience spellbound with a delivery that was perfectly pitched to the. Paul displayed a fictitious Geraldton race as his demonstration race, using Indian as his trial boat and Onesails sail data. Many of the audience are of course preparing for the 50th Anniversary Geraldton Ocean Classic so the demonstration was right on the money.
Thank you to Paul and Onesails for a terrific Topic Evening!
