SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUB
In line with good governance practice, the Management Committee have requested that the Governance Committee review the South of Perth Yacht Club’s Rules and By Laws to ensure that they are fit for purpose whilst remaining compliant with the Associations Incorporation Act.
The current set of Rules and ByLaws were adopted in May 2019 in response to the root and branch overhaul of the Associations Incorporation Act which was introduced in July 2016. Since then, there have been a number of clauses identified as being ambiguous and/or open to interpretation, as well as a number of omissions, together with various drafting inconsistencies.
As the Rules and By Laws are the principal governance documents of the Club, by providing the foundation for its existence and operation, member input into this review is very important.
To that end, the Governance Committee is seeking your views and input on changes that you believe could be incorporated into these documents.
This can be done by emailing comments and/or suggestions to governance@sopyc.com.au or by contacting the Chair of the Governance Committee, Phillip Draber, in person or on 0418 293 051.
Following the review, any proposed changes to the Rules and By Laws recommended by the Governance Committee and if they are considered appropriate by the Management Committee, they will be presented to members for approval at a general meeting.
We look forward to your suggestions and ideas.
Chair, Governance Committee.

Whilst acknowledging that the continued swapping of Presentation locations around the building is not ideal (and the cause of some of the extra noise at these times), a respectful silence would be appreciated when competitors are receiving their pennants and prizes.
Your co-operation with this request would also be greatly appreciated by Flag Officers and recipients of awards.

Sailability had to again cancel last weeks session of the 2021/2022 sailing season due to poor weather conditions. The safety of our participants and volunteers is paramount.
The Sailability sponsor of the week is the Rotary Club of Melville. Sailability would not exist at South of Perth Yacht Club if the Rotary Club of Melville hadn’t taken the initiative and purchased the Hansa dinghies which we use today. Members of the Rotary Club, some of who are SoPYC club members, formed a committee to oversee the purchase and the eventual handing over of these assets to SoPYC. Without Rotary’s generosity, many Sailability participants would not have had the wonderful experience of sailing at our club. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Melville.
The weather is looking good for tomorrow’s Sailability session. A reminder to volunteers that we have a breakfast/safety meeting commencing at 8.00am.
Sailability at SoPYC is run by a group of dedicated club members and active volunteers every Wednesday morning giving participants each week the joy and experience of sailing.
We have a waiting list of people with a disability wanting to sail but are we limited by not having enough volunteers to assist us. Volunteers are always welcome – contact Liz on 0419 949 006 or email sailabilitysopyc@gmail.com
