SOUTH OF PERTH YACHT CLUB
In line with good governance practice, the Management Committee have requested that the Governance Committee review the South of Perth Yacht Club’s Rules and By Laws to ensure that they are fit for purpose whilst remaining compliant with the Associations Incorporation Act.
The current set of Rules and ByLaws were adopted in May 2019 response to the root and branch overhaul of the Associations Incorporation Act which was introduced in July 2016. Since then, there have been a number of clauses identified as being ambiguous and/or open to interpretation, as well as a number of omissions, together with various drafting inconsistencies.
As the Rules and By Laws are the principal governance documents of the Club, by providing the foundation for its existence and operation, member input into this review is very important.
To that end, the Governance Committee is seeking your views and input on changes that you believe could be incorporated into these documents.
This can be done by emailing comments and/or suggestions to governance@sopyc.com.au or by contacting the Chair of the Governance Committee, Phillip Draber, in person or on 0418 293 051.
Following the review, any proposed changes to the Rules and By Laws recommended by the Governance Committee and if they are considered appropriate by the Management Committee, they will be presented to members for approval at a general meeting.
We look forward to your suggestions and ideas.
Chair, Governance Committee.

There been a lot of speculation surrounding the kitchen and when the works will finish.
Can I please offer some clarification and an update. The builders have informed me that the kitchen will be handed over by Melbourne Cup Day. We have practical completion booked for Monday 1st November 2021.
I would like to thank all of the members and staff for their patience and understanding during this time.

Facilities Team New Starter
I am very pleased and excited to announce our New Boatyard Administrator Noel Peake. She will be primarily responsible for bookings on the hardstand.
Noel comes from a very busy scheduling background and she will be a valuable asset as we start to simplify the booking process.
Welcome onboard Noel. Please pop by and say hello when you get the opportunity.

Sailability had its second session of the 2021/2022 sailing season with 25 disabled participants enjoying a very pleasant and sunny Wednesday morning out on the river.
The Sailability sponsor of the week is Kelvale Medical Group who generously donated the funds to purchase boat covers for our 303 dinghies. Since being evicted from its long standing place in one of the club’s sheds, the 303 dinghies have been left out in the open. As a result these club assets were subject to the prevailing weather conditions and filled with water when it rained. The new boat covers are now providing much needed protection. Thank you Kelvale Medical Group.
Sailability at SoPYC is run by a group of dedicated club members and active volunteers every Wednesday morning giving disabled participants each week the joy and experience of sailing.
We have a waiting list of disabled people wanting to sail but are we limited by not having enough volunteers to assist. Volunteers are always welcome – contact Liz on 0419 949 006 or email sailabilitysopyc@gmail.com
