Nominations for Management Committee Close 5.00pm 4th August
This morning SoPYC hosted the Celebration of Life for Past Commodore Maurice Cooper. It was well attended and showed how fondly Maurice was thought of by members and the huge respect he engendered as an officer of the Club. You may wonder why I am opening with these remarks under the banner that alerts members to the close-off of Nominations for the Management Committee for the 2021-2022 year? I am doing so to illustrate the commitment that members bring to the club to better it for all. The club is for all members with all sorts of interests and organisations, such as SoPYC, grow and mature through the efforts, skills and experiences of members. We have a large knowledge base within our membership and the challenges the club faces to be a vibrant and viable community of like-minded people will always call on the knowledge and willingness of members to shape the club into what they want it to be; its values, its aspirations, its activities and its standing – locally, nationally and internationally. We have two slogans that are representative of SoPYC. One is: Many passions: one club; and the other is a “sound bite” to say what we stand for – Welcoming | People | Sailing | Inspiration
If you have a passion for the club and have a set of skills and knowledge you believe will be useful to the club, please consider using them to benefit SoPYC. If you would like more information about what you can contribute and how you can contribute, please speak to members of the Management Committee and consider lodging a nomination for the committee. Alternatively, staff can point you in the direction of committee members. A call to 9364 5844 may set you on a satisfying course….
The Management Committee is not the only committee that members can contribute to. While Management Committee members chair sub committees that look after finance (Finance), food & beverage (House & Functions); sailing and power boating (Regatta, Centreboards (OTB), Training and Development, Pens and Moorings, Membership, Works, Security and Grand Sponsors, there are committees whose specific task is to provide activities and services to members that sit below and within the committee structure – sailing, OTB, power, ocean racing and cruising.
Having spoken to members of the Management Committee and, if you feel you would like to contribute to the club, Nomination Forms can be found in the administration/Ballroom foyer on the main notice board. You will need a proposer and seconder who are voting members to support your nomination as a financial member, which then needs to be lodged with the General Manager in the administration office by 5.00pm on Wednesday 4th August, 2021.

Pens and Moorings Update
Test & Tag Warning
Shore power cables have now expired their test & tag date of March. It is an annual requirement to have your shore power cable tested and tagged by the Club, if you wish to connect to the Club’s power network. Take your cable into Coffee Point Marine where the Club’s approved electrician will perform the task at no cost to you.
Due to COVID 19 delays we have extended this till the end of July.
After the end of July, you will be charged for your re- test and those cables without current tags will be disconnected.

The Ti Tu Trophy was first awarded in 1975. One of the oldest Club trophies,Ti Tu is named after the historic steam launch, owned by trophy donor and club stalwart, Frank Marchant, presented each year by a member of his family. Many years ago, South of Perth Yacht Club was renown for having one of the hardest hitting and numerous fleets on the off shore calendar. This was maintained right through until the late 90’s when the clubs on the ocean began upping the ante and providing fantastic pens and social structures to the off shore sailors. And rightly so…. Who …

It’s a sign of the weather with record inducing rainfall up river and the amount of dirt flowing down both the Canning and Swan rivers. Have a look at the photos and the murky brown colour of the water. The river needed this and dare I say it’s about time it had a good flush out. The rain and run …
