What's on this week: 20 October 2020

You have probably noticed that the Duyfken has not been resident on jetty 1 for some time and members may be aware that the ship is moored in Fremantle and being prepared for a trip across the Bight to Sydney. Sadly, for us, the ship is moving to the Maritime Museum and will hopefully be there in time for Christmas and the programme the Maritime Museum has for the future of the ship. For those members wishing to get a last “close-up” look, the ship will be at the Sardine Wharf on Saturday but won’t be available for tours. The final sail is on Sunday and this will be the last photo opportunity for members who would like to see her out on the water under sail before the departure eastwards.

Melbourne Cup is just a few weeks away and tickets are available for the day. It’s bigger and better than last year so it’s a shame that Flemington probably won’t have the usual carnival atmosphere but nonetheless we will be doing our best to carry on the carnival spirit and enjoyment that the Melbourne Cup lunch has become. Please call Maree on 9364 5844 to book your table for the day.

Pens & Moorings Update

Purchase of New Vessels

As you read in last weeks Coffee Pointers, there are boats being sold out of the club and members are replacing them with new ones and some members old and new have had some bad experiences with the process.
This week I thought it might be of help if I highlighted some of the key things that you need to do when selling your vessel and what you need to do when bringing you new vessel into the club.

Selling your vessel

While you don’t need to advise the club that you are going to list your vessel, there are a couple of things to remember;
  • You must not advertise your vessel with the pen. The pen belongs to the club and is not transferrable.
  • Advise your broker that he must not tell his client that the pen can go with the boat.
  • You must notify the club within 14 days of the sale that the vessel has been sold.
  • If the purchaser would like the vessel to remain in the club then they must join the club and apply for a pen once their membership has been accepted. They may need to take the vessel away until a pen becomes available or, prior to purchase they can ring the club and see if there are pens available.
Purchasing your new vessel

It would be wise before purchasing your new vessel to check with the Club to see if the Club can accommodate your new vessel. If you purchase a bigger vessel and it won’t fit your pen, we might not be able to accommodate you. Here are a couple of things to remember;
  • You will need to fill in new Pen Application and Marina Safety Compliance forms. These are now available online through the club portal.
  • The forms are easy to use, however do not fill any of the cells with TBA. The form will be rejected and you will need to re submit
  • Make sure you upload your Certificate of Currency. A copy of the invoice is not sufficient and the form will be rejected and you will need to re submit. You can easily get your certificate of currency from your insurance company.
  • Once you have completed your Marina Safety Compliance form please ring one of the Compliance Officers listed on the website to have your vessel inspected before it goes into the pen.
Its not difficult and can be done from your phone.

Just remember, your key guidelines are the Pens & Moorings Policy and the Marina Manual. Both of these are available to read or download from the Club’s web portal
