We have been bombarded about Covid-19 restrictions and we can all look forward to an easing of restrictions after 12.01pm on Sunday 14th February. Hopefully, Friday’s announcement by Mr McGowan will bring an easing of restrictions for the Perth and Peel region.
|
Thank you to all members for the perseverance, patience and good humour being shown during the restrictions we are all having to adhere to. The bulletin sent out earlier today will provide some relief to sailors on Wednesday, Friday and the weekend although there are still obligations in place while out on the water. Please familiarise yourselves with these.

The postponement due to Covid-19 restrictions of both the 75th Anniversary Cocktail Party and the Reunion Afternoon Tea is disappointing but necessary to keep everyone safe. We are looking forward to running both events soon.
|
In the meantime enjoy these images from Bernie Kaaks, copied from Anne Carroll’s precious collection of the activities of her father, Commodore Merton Grey. Merton was taken from us much too soon, aged just 42, but left a great legacy. His yacht Serene was built in his backyard and was transported to the river on a home built jinker on public roads – hard to see that happening in today’s environment!
Serene was a prominent ocean racer from the moment she was launched, in the era before Fremantle Sailing Club and Hillarys Yacht Club, when all ocean racers were moored on the river and had to lower their masts to compete “outside”.
