Dear Members and Friends,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long time Club Member and Past Commodore Anthony Coddington

Anthony Coddington passed away on the Friday 11 December 2020. His health had been deteriorating for some years.

As Commodore, Tony was the consummate gentleman. Self-deprecating and humble, he made light of his many talents.
As a sailor, he owned the H28 yacht “Georgina” and rarely missed a Saturday afternoon race. Always competitive, he was a consistent H28 skipper in this very competitive fleet.
As a club member, Tony was involved in everything. He and his lovely wife Jan were an elegant couple, deeply committed to each other. They were highly respected members of the Club so it was no surprise that when Tony stood for election as a Rear Commodore in the early 1990’s, he was a popular choice and won easily. He presided over the Regatta Committee for two years as Rear Commodore, overseeing sailing activity which included well over 100 keelboats every Saturday and 60 or so Centreboard yachts every Sunday throughout the summer.

He served as Commodore from 1993 to 1995, leading the Club with a steady hand throughout that time. Following his retirement as Commodore, he continued to sail regularly, and as always, remained keenly involved in the affairs of the Club.
Outside the yacht club, Tony Coddington was an accomplished painter. Many of his works are hanging in members’ homes, depicting their yachts in action. Tony had a wonderful eye for detail and his paintings were (and still are) superb.
As ill health forced him to quit his beloved Georgina, it was also necessary to back away from Club activities.

The greatest legacy Tony has left the Club is the value of tradition and inclusiveness for its members. Much of the preparatory work for our 50th Anniversary celebrations, which occurred while Tony’s successor Rod Sawyer was commodore, was made possible by the hard work of Tony and his committee.

Tony’s cheerful, optimistic, quiet and unassuming dignity will be sadly missed.

The Funeral Service to celebrate Tony's life will be held here at the Club at 9.45am in the Ballroom, Thursday 17 December 2020, please be seated promptly. The service will conclude at 10.45am.

As further information comes to hand, members will be notified.

On Behalf of the Flag Officers, Management Committee, Staff and Members we extend our sincere condolences to Tony's wife Jan and his family and friends.

Kind Regards,
South of Perth Yacht Club
