ANZAC Day has traditionally been a time of remembrance for Australia and New Zealand, and the customary services and gatherings by veterans and their families and friends have, like so much else, been disrupted. We are all looking forward to the lifting of restrictions and the freedom to return to our usual lives and pursuits as were the returning servicemen and women in 1918/1919. It may be of interest to know that our Club was established in December, 1945 by returning servicemen who were looking for an activity that would help them reconnect with their families after long absences serving overseas during World War 2. Whatever it is that you and your families plan this weekend whether it is participating in the “driveway service” or another activity such as FaceTime or Skype, we trust it will be enjoyable and safe.

ANZAC Day with a Difference - 25 April 2020
This year will be an Anzac Day like no other. We're inviting you to mark Anzac Day in a safe and special way.
|
RSLWA is encouraging all Aussies to get creative in a show of mateship this ANZAC Day – by standing in quiet contemplation at the end of their driveways, or on their balconies, at 6am on April 25.
|
RSLWA will lead this unique tribute to our fallen servicemen and women and those who have or still serve today.
|
|
The dawn commemorations will take place in the wake of the first cancellation of our ANZAC Day services since WWII, due to the COVID-19 crisis.
|
We invite the entire community of Western Australia to get behind us by:
|
- Watching our Community Service Announcement on how we can commemorate, starring some of WA’s most inspiring Veterans, as well as the WA Governor, His Excellency Kim Beazley AC, State Premier Mark McGowan and RSLWA CEO John McCourt. You can watch it here.
- Having children create craft or draw pictures about ANZAC Day and post on the RSLWA Facebook page and place in their home windows.
- Sharing our mateship-themed Veteran video profiles and articles on social media.
- Posting ANZAC Day tributes and photos to RSLWA’s Facebook and Instagram pages, including the #rslwamateship and #DrivewayDawnService hashtag on all social posts.
- Donating to our annual ANZAC Appeal with funds going toward the health, wellbeing and advocacy of our valued Veterans – https://www.rslwa.org.au/donate/.
- Lighting a candle and joining our ANZAC Day driveway Dawn Service at 5.55am on April 25. Tuning in to ABC Radio, 6PR, 96FM and 6IX for the dawn commemoration that will include The Ode, The Last Post and one-minute’s silence #DrivewayDawnService
- Tuning into a special commemorative service at 6.30am on the RSL web page and the RSLWA Facebook page, featuring messages from Governor of Western Australia, Kim Beazley AC; Premier Mark McGowan; Senator Linda Reynolds CSC, and RSLWA State President, Mr. Peter Aspinall AM.
- Firing up a family barbecue or a traditional gunfire breakfast of bacon, eggs and sausages … plus a mug of (rum-spiked) tea or coffee to toast the fallen.

With the pandemic causing all major events across the world to be cancelled, RSLWA State President, Peter Aspinall, said such a display of respect and solidarity would send a powerful message of support to our Veterans, their families and the entire Defence community.

Duyfken Update - 21 April 2020
Hi to you all,
Yes, times are challenging but here at Duyfken, we, like those mariners of 400 years ago, remain optimistic as we sail our ship in uncharted waters.
From these darker days will come sunshine and fair winds!

Can I go boating?
|
We recommend if you don’t need to go out on your boat, then please don’t. Non-essential activities should be postponed or cancelled.
|
Is there a ban on boating?
No, there has been no direction to prohibit people from going boating - but you should stay at home if the planned activity is non-essential.
|
Can I go kiteboarding, windsurfing, kayaking or take out my paddle craft?
Advice from the Federal and State Government is to stay at home unless shopping for food, going to work, exercising or attending a medical appointment. If you consider kayaking or paddling essential as a form of exercise, you should follow social distancing directions.
|
If boating is an essential activity, possibly for fishing or exercise, what do I need to remember?
The two-person rule applies unless you are boating with members of your family or those you live with. If boating with one person that you do not reside with, ensure you maintain social distancing (at least 1.5 metres apart). Use hand sanitiser where there is any contact with shared surfaces. If you are boating alone, please ensure you tell someone where you are going, check the weather and wear a life-jacket.

Should I do anything different at the SoPYC launch ramp?
Remember to maintain social distancing and personal hygiene at all times.
|
Are there restrictions on where I can go boating?
Skippers should be aware of the current notices to mariners, including those in place restricting access to Rottnest Island. There is also advice on travelling to and within Western Australia preventing vessels crossing regional boundaries.
|
Can I buy fuel or ice for my boat at SoPYC?
Yes. However, in line with Government advice, you should stay at home unless shopping for food, going to work, exercising or attending a medical appointment.

Can I still slip my boat & do maintenance at the hardstand?
|
Yes, SoPYC slipping and hardstand activities will continue at SoPYC. Please download the Lifting Data Sheet here and then call the Club bosun on

The ice box and the fuel bowser at SoPYC are still in operation.
|
Are DoT maritime facilities open?
Yes. However, in line with Government advice, if your visit is not essential, please reconsider your need to attend.

Will there be a pause on DoT boat registrations?
|
No. DoT is continuing to process recreational boat registrations.
|
|
|
|

Club Access
The Main Clubhouse and Centerboard Clubhouses' are closed until further notice, the grounds and car park are still accessible with your member's key.
|
|
There will be 24 hour access to the bathrooms and showers via the eastern entrance near Jetty 4 car-park.
|
|
|
|
SoPYC Rubbish & Recycling Bins
|
The bins within SoPYC grounds are for Club use only! The schedule for emptying these bins has been reduced due to Covid-19, so please do not use the Club bins to throw out household items. For example the bins were emptied last Friday but now are full of carpet and household items so the Club is unable to throw anything away. Thank you for your assistance.

How can I pay my account?
I have received my statement by email or in the post. How can I pay it?
|
Accounts can be paid in the following way:
|
- Over the phone using credit card
- Bpay
- Cheque
- Online banking
Should you be unsure of how to pay over the phone or by BPay, please call one of the office staff who can help you through the process. Staff will be in the office from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm and can be contacted on 9364 5844.

Last quarter's vouchers will now last until August 31st 2020. No Vouchers will be charged on April 1st 2020.
