It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of longtime Club member Murray Jones.
|
|
Murray was a much valued and respected member of SoPYC for over 47 years. The club was his second home. His Spacesailer 24 Árpege was a regular participant in Saturday afternoon races. He was a very competent and competitive skipper and won numerous championships and club trophies. A trophy bearing his name is presented each year.
|
Murray served on the Pens and Moorings Committee as a Marina Compliance Officer for over 18 years and therefore was in contact with a large majority of keelboat and powerboat owners. He was a perfectionist in everything he did. Árpege was one of the best presented and maintained vessels at SoPYC. The yacht was his pride and joy. He was always willing to offer his expert advice and assistance to his fellow club members in a wide variety of marine applications particularly anything electrical.

It was Murray’s wish that he have a private funeral which was held on 28 May 2019.
