We Need Your Support with purchasing some WindBots
The club is looking into purchasing WindBots for junior and senior sailors. These are wind instruments attached to the coach and mark laying boats. The data displayed on the instrument screen is then used to predict pressure and local wind information on the actual course. This system has been used by Olympic and International sailors to take some of the guess work out of coaching and setting the best possible courses for the weather conditions to help sailors to improve their overall on-water performance. It is proposed to use the technology to help our sailors at interstate and local regattas.
This year many sailors will be at Sorrento participating in the Australian Youth Championships and the technology will help Denis Jones support our members on the water. As a result, there is some urgency to the purchase of the equipment.
The only downside is that we need to acquire the units in the next four weeks and there is no allowance in the current budget for the WindBots. Our aim is to purchase two units.
We have registered an Australian Sports Foundation Project to fund the project and, importantly, using this mechanism, provide some tax benefits for donors to the project. Here is the link:
We need to raise $8,000 dollars for each of the units. Yes, I know it’s a lot of money, but these will be used in every type of coaching at our great Club.
Please, if you can spare some dollars to help us purchase a Bot, it would be much appreciated. Please contact myself or Denis Jones for more information about the equipment.

The benign conditions kept all 15 boats within striking distance of each other and the results and times reflect some very close racing over all 3 races. Greg on Spot the difference was looking for a perfect score of fastest but the on board navigational system couldn’t reconcile that other classes might be sailing a longer course than the fifteens and allowed the opportunists on Faffin to sneak through for the bullet.
Further enquiries are being made as to the origins of the hole in the side of The Sails Office. To date it’s been blank looks and shrugged shoulders all round.

Head Coach Report 5 Nov 2019
What a great breeze last Sunday for the racing. Mostly not your normal go left seabreeze, so lots of options and good observation required. It was great to see the Foiling Moths join in with the racing for some of their training and fly around the course. Here’s a shot of SoPYC sailor Matt Jerwood sporting his new wings. Not …
