Dear Members and Friends,
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of long-standing member and S80 stalwart Wally Philippe.

On behalf of the Flag Officers, Management Committee, staff, all members and his crew, we extend our sincere condolences to Wally’s wife Faye and her family.

Wally was a sailor most of his life having sailed dinghies, Skates and Lightweight Sharpies as a young man. He joined the South of Perth Yacht Club in 1980 and was the proud owner and skipper of the S80 ‘Front Up’ – a yacht he sailed with distinction for many years including adding this season’s S80 Association Metro Championship and the Swan River Championship to a long list of achievements even whilst he was not well. For the last 18 years, he skippered ‘Front Up’ with his left arm after losing the effective use of his right arm about 18 years ago.

Wally was never heard to complain about his problems and he was always willing to help out and organise S80 events as well as volunteer for other duties both on the water and around the Club. He was a good Clubman and a thoroughly nice bloke. Known as ‘The Admirable Wal’ to his crew, he will be greatly missed by his many friends in the Western Australian sailing community and elsewhere.

An announcement concerning Wally’s funeral arrangements will be released in the next few days.
