Wheelbarrows on Jetties

Dear Members,
Wheelbarrows are provided to assist members in carrying items to and from their boats on the jetties. The customary practice is that wheelbarrows are returned to the start of each jetty gangway as soon as it is finished with so other members benefit from having the convenience of using the barrow to transport items to and from their boats too. Unfortunately, over the last few busy weeks, some members are not returning the wheelbarrows, preferring instead to leave the wheelbarrow at their pen. This understandably is creating anxiety amongst members looking for wheelbarrows to carry items to and from their vessels. Pictured below are some recent examples of wheelbarrows being left at pens while the boat owners are away from the Club enjoying their boating. Please extend the courtesy of returning the wheelbarrows to the start of each jetty gangway so you and others don’t have to go in search of a wheelbarrow thus delaying getting on to the water and enjoying the day!

Testing and Tagging of Shore Power Leads

It is a requirement of South of Perth Yacht Club that all vessels with a shore power lead are to have their lead tested and tagged once a year. Compliance expiry dates for all member's electrical cords was 1 January 2019. For all of those members who are yet to have their lead tested and tagged, the club electrician Doug Smith is available to do testing and tagging for a small charge. Doug is located on the grounds of SoPYC and is the owner of Coffee Point Marine Services. His contact details and opening hours are below.

Coffee Point Marine Services. Phone: 9364 9409
Opening Hours:
Monday to Friday 8am – 5pm
Saturday 9am – 1pm
Sunday Closed

Alternatively, you are welcome to use your own electrician. Your electrician must provide their own tag for your lead. Your tagged lead then needs to be taken to the SoPYC office where a SoPYC tag can be obtained and applied to your lead next to the tag applied by your electrician.

To view the policy relating to the Connection of Vessels to Shore-Based Power Supply please log in to the Members Portal.

Boat Ramp

It is important that all boat ramp users adhere to the Club rules when recovering their vessels from the water and putting them back on trailers. Unfortunately, in recent weeks a number of members have been seen and spoken to about, “driving” their vessels on to trailers when retrieving vessels from the water. Driving vessels onto trailers on the boat ramp is strictly prohibited. The damage that the thrust of the motor's propeller underwater does to the ramp leads to undermining the ramp leading to expensive repair bills. There is also the safety issue for the boat operators and people in the close vicinity of the vessel itself.

Racing Yacht Wash-down - Special Rates

We are pleased to advise skippers of racing yachts and twilight participants that we are able to offer a special rate for hull wash-downs. The wash-down is for a lift and drop and a 30 minute clean of the hull and can be organised by telephoning the bosun to arrange a time that is convenient for the skipper and fits into the boat lifting bookings. Should the wash-down be longer than 30 minutes, the rate will increase in $15 increments per quarter hour.

For racing yachts less than 8m the price is $45.00;
8m- less than 10m the price is $60.00;
10m- less than 12m the price is $75.00;
12m- less than 15m the price is $90.00;
and for vessels 15m – less than 18m the price is $100.

Crane three on the Western Hardstand - Out of Service

Members are advised that both jib arms on crane three on the Western Hardstand are out of order. Vector, the lifting company, have advised they will be starting repairs to the jib arms in the next week or so.
Every Friday from 2.30pm to 5pm the Club is conducting races for DragonFlite95 (DF95) radio controlled yachts. You are invited to come and participate in the fun of racing these restricted one-design yachts. There are currently twenty-three DF95's belonging to members of SoPYC and they will be happy to hand over the controls for you to 'have a go'. A DF95 …
