Boat Ramp

It is important that all boat ramp users adhere to the Club rules when recovering their vessels from the water and putting them back on trailers. Unfortunately, in recent weeks a number of members have been seen and spoken to about, “driving” their vessels on to trailers when retrieving vessels from the water. Driving vessels on to trailers on the boat ramp is strictly prohibited. The damage that the thrust of the motor's propellers underwater does to the ramp leads to undermining the ramp leading to expensive repair bills. There is also the safety issue for the boat operators and people in the close vicinity of the vessel itself.

Racing Yacht Wash-downs

We are pleased to advise skippers of racing yachts and twilight participants that we are able to offer a special rate for hull wash-downs. The wash-down is for a lift and drop and a 30 minute clean of the hull and can be organised by telephoning the bosun to arrange a time that is convenient for the skipper and fits into the boat lifting bookings. Should the wash-down be longer than 30 minutes, the rate will increase in $15 increments per quarter hour.

For racing yachts less than 8m the price is $ 45.00;
8m- less than 10m the price is $60.00;
10m- less than 12m the price is $75.00;
12m- less than 15m the price is $90.00;
and for vessels 15m – less than 18m the price is $100.

Crane three on the Western Hardstand - Out of Service

Members are advised that both jib arms on crane three on the Western Hardstand are out of order. Vector, the lifting company, have advised they will be starting repairs to the jib arms in the next week or so.

SoPYC Wheel Clamp

At the recent Management Committee meeting the subject of car parking was discussed and the Committee is concerned at the number of cars that are being parked improperly, ignoring parking information, inadequately identified (which includes boat trailers), blocking hardstand trailer bays preventing members using their boats, or not being able to return boats to the land pens.

The Security Committee has been asked to resurrect “Jed” (clamp-it) - the colloquial name for the club wheel clamp. So without attaching the clamp injudiciously and without warning, the Security Committee is asking that member’s be conscious of their parking habits around the club. Should the clamp be applied to a vehicle, it can only be released during office hours Monday to Friday and the fee attached to the removal of the clamp is $150.00.
Every Friday from 3pm to 5.30pm the Club is conducting races for DragonFlite95 (DF95) radio controlled yachts. You are invited to come and participate in the fun of racing these restricted one-design yachts. There are currently seventeen DF95s belonging to members of SoPYC and they will be happy to hand over the controls for you to 'have a go'. A DF95 …

FLYING FIFTEEN UPDATE

Still suffering from a bit of the post-Christmas, post-Nationals hiatus, Sunday’s 13 boat fleet was presented with the lightest breeze we have had this season. Light air is better than no air and it sure beats staying on shore. Plenty of results to be found in the usual place but, it seems the buoys on Sunday were not in their usual place as more than one Flying Fifteen was observed doing a circle after hitting one ( or more ) of them !!
Advance notice is hereby given that the World famous Curry Night is scheduled for Saturday, February 2nd. Enough time to consult the recipe books. Full details to be circulated shortly.
Racing as usual next Sunday. See you at the fireworks on Saturday night.
