Dates: Sat 15 February 2020
Time: 09:00 – 14:00
Link to enrol: Click here
Cost: $65 per person

We are fortunate to have to highly experience Race Officers to deliver this training – John Taylor (International RO) and Pamela Strickland (State RO). Places will fill fast on this course so please ensure you enrol promptly if you intend to participate.

This course is suitable for aspiring race officers and start/finish team volunteers. It is a great opportunity to engage in a hands on course with practical learning opportunities and hear from two fantastic RO’s in WA.

No prior knowledge is needed – once participants enrol they will be sent some resources to help get them started. A great course for those involved in club level Race Management. This course is ideal for people who have a keen interest in Sailing and want to participate in another face of our sport.

Speakeasy Series

Australian Sailing WA presents a series of evenings for Instructors, Coaches, Race Officials and Mark Layers, Umpires and Judges and Measurers.

Officials have the opportunity to engage in professional development, ask questions, network and learn from each other.

These sessions are free to attend, some light refreshments and nibbles will be provided.

Please click here for further details.

First Aid Courses

Need to brush up on your First Aid skills? St John Ambulance will be running a full day course (Provide First Aid certificate) on Tues 28th July 2020 and for those requiring only a CPR Refresher, there will be a course running on Tues 21st July 2020. Interested? Please click here for further information. Numbers are limited.

RST Course for Women

Did you know that out of the 270,000 RST holders in WA, only 17% are women? SoPYC recognise the need to encourage our female members to confidently take up skippering of power boats and in so doing are offering an RST course for women only. Club Member and highly qualified and experienced Tracey Leveridge-Smith will take you through everything you need to know. Want to know more? Please click here.

Safety & Sea Survival Course

The next SSSC is set for 22nd & 23rd February 2020 at Fremantle Sailing Club. These courses fill up very quickly, so be quick to register. Click here for full details.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Volunteer Opportunites

Sunday 08 March (AM) – We need someone on the mark layer boat that can handle marks. This is for the Viper / Windsurfer races in the morning.

Sunday 08 March (PM) – We need a safety boat driver and crew for the afternoon’s OTB races.

If you can assist with either event, please sign up online or email On Water Group:

Keelboat Sign Ons

For all Keelboat skippers that are able to receive SMS’s, please Sign On via the SMS sent to your mobile phone via On Water Group a few hours prior to each race. If the number of persons onboard changes, please update via the same SMS i.e. go back to the original SMS and update the PoB.

Skippers unable to use the SMS Sign On, can arrange to have the SMS sent to another regular crew person who can Sign On on your behalf. Just add in their mobile number in the additional mobile field in your TopYacht boat profile. On Water Group can assist with this.

Alternatively, use the Sign On sheet in the foyer outside the On Water Group office.

If all else fails, contact SoPYC Race Control via VHF Radio but please be conscious of keeping your transmission short as possible and never during a start sequence.

Off The Beach Post-Race Presentations

Please note that the presentations usually held in the Quarterdeck area on the main clubhouse following the days racing, will now be held at the Centreboard Clubhouse on the following dates:

  • Sunday 12 January
  • Sunday 23 February
  • Sunday 08 March
  • Sunday 29 March
