This is the first course on the Keelboat pathway, designed for complete beginners. You will be introduced to the fundamental principles of sailing on a small yacht, covering the skills of rigging, boat handling, sailing upwind, reaching and downwind. This course develops both your theory and practical skills to a level where you can confidently take control on the helm.
The course covers basic sailing terminology and rules, knot tying, tacking and gybing and man overboard recovery.
The lessons will be given by an Australian Sailing qualified instructor on a BW8 yacht, sailed with 4 participants and an on-board coach.
The course length is 20 hours and is run over 5 Saturdays. The cost is $350.00. You will be awarded the Start Crewing and Helming qualification with Australian Sailing and given a log book to verify the skills you have completed.
All of the boat equipment, life jackets and sailing gloves will be provided. Please wear sun protective clothing, a warm and waterproof jacket if it’s cold and closed in shoes.
